Ships, part 3

A supply of balsa has been secured...


Finding these sheets took a bit more work than I had hoped. The first two stops, the local model train shop and art store, did not have any balsa. We had to go down to the area of the mall to the nearest HobbyTown USA, and, hidden away in a corner, was a nice supply of the material. My wife also found that shiny new cutting mat in the background - it is huge, at 24" x 36" it is bigger than the hobby table! It was also ½ the price of a similar mat at Michaels so there was much rejoicing!

Hlutrgú, part 1

Now that the hobby table is set up, why not use it!

I have used plastic rod for the javelins, and they are mounted on steel washers.

Here is some of my unexpected collection of 1/6000 scale ships:


Just the Germans and British in this pic. My 1/6000 German fleet is an eclectic mix of battlecruisers, pre-dreadnoughts, and torpedo boats, while the British only have battlecruisers. I have to say that I do not remember the specific plan for these ships! But, they are beautiful castings - do I really need another scale?

Now, I just need to get some balsa and the shipyard can start up again.

And, some 28mm minis are in my future as well...

Back on track, with a surprise...

Far too slowly, but it is finally done - the hobby table is set up for business:

And, it is immediately besieged with projects and a few surprises as well if you look closely!

Here is the first one:

I thought that these packs were sold off long ago, but they look intact and almost completely untouched. Looks like two to three ships per pack - plenty to start off. I really do not know much about the period - any rules suggestions? Since these minis received the official 'thumbs up' from the missus, they are keepers...

The missus and I are still debating the fate of all of those 1/6000 ships, scattered on the work table in the first pic; I am still sorting them out! Looks like British, German, Turkish (!), US, and Brazilian (?) ships, in a mix of WW1 and WW2 eras.

Table re-set

The bits and pieces that I have been waiting for have finally all come together, and the hobby table is finally in order:

Paint storage is handled by a pair of cheap spice racks, and the keyboard tray has been converted into tool storage (and more paints!). It is still a bit awkward but in time the arrangement will sort itself out.

Now, to find where those Hlutrgu are hiding so they can be equipped with weapons...
