Hlutrgú and a Priest

These were finished at the same time as the Ever Present Glory troops, but only now are being photographed.  First up, a priest of Hrü'ü:

Very simple scheme compared to others.  I did not try to add lettering to the scroll - that might be a bit beyond my meager skills.  The face mask is pure speculation also.  This miniature, if I recall correctly, is from 1979!

And, two Hlutrgú:

The leader of the warband is on the left, with a shaman on the right.  The leader is wielding a weapon converted from a Sérqu trooper.  Just one more left to finish off the Hlutrgú warband.

Legion of Ever Present Glory, part 14

Another week, another pic of my poor, abused Tékumel miniatures, specifically the First Legion of Ever Present Glory:

I painted the base, and after letting that dry coated the back half with Liquitex Matte Medium, then quickly dumped an assortment of flocking materials on the wet medium.  I am a bit concerned about the interior spaces of the base, where the brush found it difficult to reach.  I hope that I have not, once again, painted myself into a corner with these miniatures and my basing scheme.  The fluid but reasonably slow drying Matte Medium should do the trick, though, as compared to PVA or a similar glue.

This first base of troops will sit under the dusting of flock for a while, then we will see if it worked...

Meanwhile, another pic of a slightly different part of the desk:

More miniatures, waiting their turn!

Hlutrgú, part 5

The first 5 of my Hlutrgú warband are finally complete:

I tried to give a little variation in the minis by slightly bending the arms and legs.  The metal used is a bit bendy and the pose can be altered just by using hand pressure.  I used some artistic license to alter the coloration also; three of the Hlutrgú above have splotches, and one is very pale in comparison - a young Hlutrgú in my book.

Another pic, showing the basing:

I did not go with a swampy scheme although I could change that in the future.  The materials are very simple, just Woodland Scenics flock and talus for the most part.  The larger, darker rocks are crushed walnut shells, which I found at the local pet store.  My 7-lb bag will last me several lifetimes!

Hlutrgú, part 4

A little bit closer to completion, every week - here is a pic of the current look:

On the left, the mini has its second coat of neat Future. On the right, the mini has a coat of Pebeo matte finish on top of the Future - cuts the shine right down, although I appear to have missed a few spots. Also just visible on the right-hand mini is a mottled stripe pattern, although it seems to be just a bit light compared to the rest of the skin.

One more pic from the table:

The first set of shields for my Sérqu troops (and two for some dwarfs), coated in Reaper Master Paint brush-on primer.

Hlutrgú, part 3

Here are a pair of work-in-progress pics of those pesky swamp dwelling Hlutrgú:

Shaman, drummer, and champions.

A few of the 'boys'.

They look a little rough yet; I am not quite finished so hopefully the end result will be better. In particular, the lightest colored ones gave me some problems. I think they received two base coats, and they still did not look right after an overall ink wash. So, they received yet another base coat of thinned paint, slightly darker than the original, and they seem to look much better.

I am also trying to decide on the colors for their weapons. So far, in 'My Tékumel' I have been using metallics for all weapons - not canon I realize but it looks OK to me (YTMV)*. Of course, all that I have painted so far have been Ever Present Glory troops! If I go with metal javelin tips for the Hlutrgú, I might go with a copper or bronze effect.

Hlutrgu, part 2

WIP photo of the Hlutrgu:

I am trying for a color scheme where the youngest members of the warband are the lightest shade. The champion on the right is the darkest, of course. He also has given up on javelins and has a blade - which I made from a leftover short sword from a Serqu trooper.

I am also considering some sort of spotted/striped scheme, at least for some of them.

Hlutrgú, part 1

Now that the hobby table is set up, why not use it!

Here is a blurry pic of my Hlutrgú warband:

I have used plastic rod for the javelins, and they are mounted on steel washers.

Primed black, with gesso.

The Qol and Hlutrgu have arrived

The first minis from the Tékumel Club have arrived - Qol and Hlutrgu!

Many thanks for Howard - he packs a nice parcel. Here is what was inside the box:

A nifty inner container, with Tékumel-style artwork! That picture is a stylised depiction of the history of Tékumel, from colonization to the current situation - roughly 60,000 years...

Inside that box were two plastic bags carefully wrapped in bubblewrap:

I ordered 1 Hlutrgu warband and 1 Qol horde. The labels explain the contents, and the art is a nice touch.

Here is the first group - Hlutrgu:

Fourteen minis in total. Please note that these minis are straight out of the bag, no cleaning or inking - these pics might not show all of the details. There is very little flash and the mold lines are limited.

Here is the 'command' group. From the left: drummer, champion, shaman/leader. The shaman has a staff (visible in the group pic above). The hands will need to be drilled out to accept javelins, which are not included - you must supply your own weapons.

More Hlutrgu. From the left: warrior, champion with hostage, warrior. You get five of each warrior pose with the warband. As with the command figures, hands need to be drilled out to accept your self-supplied weapon. I did notice that the metal used is bendy, and the ankles are a bit flexible. These are nice minis - I do need to find the proper colors for their skin!

Now, the Qol:

Eight (ahem - TEN) minis in this horde. One bonus - you get halberds with this pack. The 'hands' (their arms actually end in tentacles) do need to be drilled out to accept the halberds.

These are the halberdiers. There are four in each horde - two poses, two each. They are a little bigger than the Hlutrgu.

Qol swordsmen and bows.

Here is a comparison pic, 1 each Hlutrgu, Qol, and Tsolyani officer:

The Hlutrgu are a bit smaller than humans, which is exactly how they should be. These minis scale to each other very well. Can't wait to get some paint on them!
