Small and infrequent they are, yet some paint is being applied to minis -- sorry but no pics yet --
The first small set of Legion of Ever Present Glory troops for the Tsolyanu are almost done. I completed the bases earlier in the week; they only need a clearcoat (which will be yet another story as I am definitely not using the wonderfully toxic Dullcoat anymore...).
The unit of Empire Outriders is getting a dab or two of paint also. I am about to start Step 2 of the horse painting experiment - the block colors are done (with the exception of the saddle) and now a wash of ink will be applied over the entire creature. Scared? Yes I am.
As the prospect of having completed minis is getting closer, I have been thinking more about terrain. I have a few plans and some materials gathered, so soon I will attempt to make... something.
There is yet another MMORPG that is absorbing my time and attention. It is a new game from NCsoft called Aion and it is quite simply beautiful. The graphics, from characters to terrain, are stunning even with our outdated graphic cards. I will try to post some screenshots - I have a large collection since I have been using them to get ideas for mini terrain projects.
.
Ah yes, gaming! And a lot of fun it is... but should it be miniatures or MMORPG?

MMORPG, part 7
Quite a while back, last December actually, Feawin (my wife) and I switched from World of Warcraft back to EverQuest2 as our on-line computer game/time-sink. I have a couple of screenshots from EQ2:

My Ratonga berserker, Ratzenfric, in East Freeport.

Larousse, a Ratonga brigand, fighting undead orcs in The Commonlands

Buffing up, EQ2 style - my wife's Wood Elf wizard, Miraj

My Gnome conjuror, Gnisq, and his Tellurian Soldier pet, in the North Qeynos bank
(one thing about gnomes - I played a gnome mage in EQ, a gnome mage in WoW, and still play a gnome in EQ2!)

Larousse and my wife's warden Anashi in the Sinking Sands on Erollisi Day
Grinding away and having fun still!

Yet another change...
Hmmm, tis the season!

That is 'Larousse', my Ratonga brigand, standing in the main square of Temple Street in Freeport. His armor does not quite match, as I have yet to find replacements for his arm/hand protection.

'Gnisq', my gnomish conjuror, just outside the inn at Baubleshire in Qeynos. He is observing his new conjured pet, a fire elemental.
We (Feawin and I) made another change around this place - we have left Azeroth and migrated back to Norrath. In simpler words, we have gone back to playing Everquest2 and have left World of Warcraft. Why? There were several reasons, but one of the main items was the continued slide of WoW towards what appears to be universal PvP (player vs. player) gaming. If we wanted that, we would be playing first-person shooters!
Here is a screenshot of one of my characters:

We are enjoying the change in scenery. My kids still play WoW, but I think that the change for us is permanent.

MMORPG, part 6
Things are moving along in the great shaman leveling race. I have a goal - to get my shaman to at least level 56 by November 13, which is the day that the new expansion for World of Warcraft is available. This is so my wife and I can group together when she rolls up her deathknight, which will start at level 55. So far, my shaman is up to level 48, with 2 weeks to go. It will be close, as I have a lot of overtime coming up at work.
We have been doing a lot of quests to level me up quickly. Feawin has a level 70 hunter that is dragging me through those quests. It is not my preferred method of leveling, but time is not on my side!

MMORPG, part 5
We are still playing WoW but the situation is a bit different now. We have moved (over the past couple of months) over to the Scryers realm - with the main focus being on the Alliance side now. I have a gnome mage - my time-honored MMO character race/profession combo that goes back all the way to Everquest - and I am slowly working him up in levels (now lvl 20).

There he is - just outside of the dwarven city of Ironforge at night.
Feawin has a gnomish character (among many others!) also:

Her character is a warlock, and the blue fellow in the background is her Voidwalker, a summoned spirit that does her bidding in combat situations.
We're having a good time - started a guild and slowly working it up, recruiting people but not being too serious about the game, just having fun.
Feawin has also discovered Spore - which could be quite the time-sink as well. The creature creator has a free version, and some of the critters are quite amusing...

MMORPG, part 4
(I'll start with a *wave* to the people watching this from the West Seattle Blog - a very nice local news source that has a feed from local bloggers)
Slow but sure progress on the WoW front since last time, the shaman is up to lvl 21. Here is a screenshot:

My Tauren shaman is there in the middle, surrounded by water elementals that he just freed during one of his quests. Also shown is Feawin's blood elf hunter and wolf pet.
I also have an idea. One of the more interesting opponents in WoW is the Murloc, intelligent fish-people that do not like the land-dwellers. They live along large bodies of water in small villages, like these:

Here is a typical grouping of Murloc huts, with a couple of Murloc in the background.
And another pic:

One more (this one is altered slightly, since these were taken during 'night' game-wise:

I think that these would make good scenery for my fantasy skirmish games. It should not be hard to scratchbuild some of these huts, and I have some boxes & crates in the bits box to use also.

MMORPG, part 3
As it is almost the 15th, I'll take a brief interlude for the MMO stuff...
Slowly working along with my WoW characters - here is my hunter, now level 20:
This is a pic at Thunder Bluff, the Tauren city. I prefer this city to the others - the others are too crowded with players or too confusing. I might move him out to Silvermoon City though; there is no engineering trainer in Thunder Bluff. And my Tauren shaman:
Level 16 now. My hunter made him a mechanical squirrel for a pet!

MMORPG, part 2
Just a brief bit about World of Warcraft...
We moved to a different realm, Feathermoon. I made the same chr, Troll hunter; he is not as far along as he could have been if we stayed on Doomhammer, but that is not a problem to me.

He is now lvl 11, with his new pet boar, Rosebud. He is working on being an engineer also. Engineers in WoW get to tinker up some useful equipment, like grenades, goggles, and other 'interesting' items.
I also made another chr, a Tauren shaman:

This is my solo chr that I play when Feawin is grinding her main chr (a Blood Elf) up in levels. We play our troll chrs together; she has a mage at the same level as my hunter.

MMORPG time
In an attempt to live up to the 'Pixel' part of this blog's title, I have decided to post a bit on my MMORPG exploits on the 15th of every month.
There has been a change here; we have gone back to World of Warcraft. We, especially Feawin, have grown tired to some of the very tedious game-play in EQ2, especially crafting. It is just not fun anymore. So, back to WoW we went. We are playing a pair of troll hunters on the Doomhammer realm.

That's my hunter, at Razor Hill. No pet yet, since he is only level 8.

Projects: status report
OK. This is a summary of where everything is now...
Painting table - I am finally to the point where the table can actually be used for painting!
Mini project #1: Tau (40K) - Still in boxes from the move. Now that the painting table is ready, I'm going to unload one unit and get it on the table.
Mini project #2: Reptus (Warlord) - These are going to stay in their box for now. The unopened blisters will be sold off. The ones that I have started will most likely be finished sometime in the distant future.
Mini project #3: Renaissance - This project is in a state of flux. I love the pageantry of the period, but I am torn between the many ways it could be represented. Part of me wants to keep it historical, and part of me wants to make an Empire force for Warhammer Fantasy. I am even now entertaining thoughts about using 15mm, especially for the historical bent. I do know that, if I go the route of Warhammer, I will be using Old Glory historical minis as proxies for the expensive GW minis.
Computer gaming: World of Warcraft has been replaced by our return to Everquest2. And, we are having a lot of fun so far even though we are starting from scratch without much coin or equipment. One of the biggest problems with EQ2 - tradeskills - has been greatly simplified, and the continuing slide of WoW into universal PvP (player vs. player) is a turn-off.
Hot new topic: Tekumel, the Empire of the Petal Throne - This is replacing Warlord in the mini line-up. The launch of the great new line of 28mm minis from Eureka Miniatures - link - really has me jazzed. I was able to find excellent copies of two of the Tekumel novels - Man of Gold and Flamesong - for reasonable prices. I first read these novels 20+ years ago in college, and brought some of the other gaming-related pamphlets also. I do not remember what fate became them; they probably were lost during the divorce. Much of the printed items are still available, of course for a premium price! I do want to find the pamphlets that covered the armies of the period, for they contain painting guides for those units.

Changes
Once again, I have been remiss in posting. Hmmm, what can I say... I've been busy.
Things, they are a'changin here.
First off, we have moved back to EQ2. Both of us were tired of the recent change to the realms that made all NPCs targets, without penalty. If we wanted to play on a PvP realm we would not have picked a RPG realm. Simple as that. And it is really frustrating to find that the quest NPCs (and all of the others) have been killed by some bored chump.
Second, because of our switch to EQ2, I've been on the computer more than usual. So, the painting table has been sorted out much more slowly than expected.
Third, after Reaper's latest change to their packaging of miniatures, the Warlord project is most likely being abandoned.
I am going to post here more often. No, really, I mean it this time! I do need to get the idea of a pic-filled blog out, and just start posting...

Yeah yeah yeah
Greetings,
Some progress has actually been made here! The process of selling off my older minis has commenced, with my 1/600 ironclads being the first. I greatly enjoyed using these minis, but I had not used them in 3 years. It is my humble opinion that the buyer got a great deal, and I got some money to direct into other projects - a renewal of my RWS (Renaissance Wargame Society) membership and my first installment on my World of Warcraft subscription.
Yes, we have switched over to WoW from Everquest2. My girlfriend was becoming increasingly frustrated with the game, and the enjoyment was gone. So we fled, and we are glad. WoW is a pleasure to play, and the background music is great! I know that is a strange bonus but it does make a difference... even my kids have commented favorably on that aspect.
We have characters on these realms: Thorium Brotherhood and Feathermoon.

Success!!!
Last week-end was a quite productive one. Briefly, on Saturday I finally defeated No.2 son at a Warhammer 40K battle. He used his Orks against my fledgling Tau force, and was narrowly defeated. I took some pics during the game and I shall attempt to post them here with a narrative of the action.
Then, on Sunday, I played some EQ2, the first time for almost three weeks. And some good timing it was too! Some other guildies (including one of Nomad Elf's characters) were on the trail of one of EQ2's special Halloween quests. This one involved some heavy combat (for our levels) with the mighty Pumpkin King. This is a 2-group raid mob, for our levels at least (I run a level 26 conjuror as my main). The four of us waited around for a long time until finally grouping with 8 others to try the King. With a full raid group, the Pumpkin King went down fairly easily, although Nomad Elf's druid went down as soon as the King spawned... I guess he doesn't like elves. The best part was the loot. I will find links to the items, but one was a +8 INT ring, and I received a +10 INT headpiece after a guildie won it by lotto after the fight. He was nice enough to just give it to me (his character is a Berserker). All in all, a great EQ2 night!
