WTJ strikes again!

The ships are just flowing out of the printers at War Times Journal - now, there is a new line of ships:   World War One ships in 1/1500, 1/1800, 1/2400, and 1/3000 scales!  Check this link:

Just Germans for now, but soon the Royal Navy as well...

And, for more pics, see this great new blog:   Red In The Morning

Langton news

Well, it is new to me, but at the Langton Notice page, it has been announced that there has been a price increase on many items, effective today.  This is the first price change for more than three years, so it is not too surprising.  I am not entirely sure what items are affected - it appears that the ancient naval line has yet to see the increase.

New ships at War Times Journal!

It appears that War Times Journal, a producer of 1/3000 naval miniatures, has greatly expanded their selection.  By shifting to rapid prototyping methods, several new ships and many old favorites are now available in several scales, 1/1500 (!), 1/1800, 1/2400, and 1/3000.

For more information, please visit their web site here.

Please note that if you are a fan of their pewter miniatures, you should get them while you can as they are being phased out of production in favor of the new material...

Another note on Figurehead - availability

I did not realize it at the time, but in my Links section, I did not provide the correct information for buying Figurehead minis. Noble Miniatures is the manufacturer of Figurehead (among many others) but they do not engage in retail sales. However, there are retail outlets for these fine ships - in the USA The Last Square carries the entire line from Figurehead, and Magister Militum is your shop in the UK.

I am in the process of updating my Links section.

Ancient Naval rules

Lorenzo at Dadi & Piombo has a new set of rules for ancient naval battles - Impetus Navalis - for large scale actions. The PDF download is here. A brief scan of the rules indicates that you might need a copy of Impetus to use them. Some interesting concepts in there!

Another, much older set of ancient naval rules is De Bellis Navalibus - based on DBA they are simple yet subtle. I hope to give them a try sometime, or better yet convert them to a more Renaissance-era style...

New VSF game coming soon - Leviathans

Catalyst Game Labs has announced a new entry in the VSF aerial fleet genre - Leviathans.

So far, the Leviathans blog has some information on the background for the game, and some interesting artwork. I am not sure how this new game would affect the already established Aeronef; it might be complimentary as the two games are based in slightly different time references. Aeronef seems (I am not quite certain as I have yet to purchase it) to have its ship architecture based in approximately 1890, while Leviathans is in 1910. That might not seem like much, but naval architecture was rapidly changing in the turn of the previous century.

My biggest hope for Leviathans is the commisioning of new minis!
