I have been reconsidering some of my gaming goals lately, and one of the ideas that I have renewed and brought forward to my gaming plans involves getting some skirmish groups together for some Song of Blades-type scenarios. I have a variety of figures that can be used for this including my lovely wife's elves and my Reptus (lizard folk).
A few other groups can be formed, like orcs:
These are Old Glory orcs, from their Ghost miniatures line. The skin color has just been started - no green orcs here! The orcs suffer from having no magic-user types, but maybe numbers will help them out; I think that I have 18 of them someplace...
And some humans:
The sword-swingers are old Harlequin miniatures, with a musician and standard bearer included. I am not certain if those two have an effect in SBH but they will look nice. The crossbow types are Old Glory miniatures from their late HYW selections, and the guy in grey is a Reaper martial arts type that will be a special character. After taking this pic, I found a chap that could work as a magic-user, so the humans have a balanced force.
The intended effect of dusting these old miniatures off and getting them painted is to get some sort of actual gaming going on here - it has been far too long...
.
Ah yes, gaming! And a lot of fun it is... but should it be miniatures or MMORPG?

Aztecs, part 2 + orcs?
Some small progress:
Aztec eagle suits, from Eureka. For eagle suits, of all the different factions, I am going to stay with natural colors, i.e. browns of various sorts. Some sources list eagle suits as being in the brighter colors, blue, red, etc. but I am choosing to ignore them! Besides, there are plenty of brightly-hued suits in the armies...
Here is the start of the Huaxtec-style suits. These suits will be brightly colored. Also in the pic: a pair of Old Glory orc archers! On a whim, I started to work on their skin color, just as a change of pace, even though those conquistadors are patiently waiting...
Another little project:
Here are some examples of my attempt to organize my painting choices - file cards with details on units. These are for my first Aztec suits; as I am not too particular about specific paint choices they are not listed here, but I can see that other units, my Tékumel and Half Continent units especially, will also list the specific brand and type of paint used.

Work-in-progress
Just a brief mention of the slow progress being made - three Ever Present Glory troops almost finished (near the center), just need the bases and overcoat; Eight Legion of Sérqu troops assembled and awaiting primer; Six Old Glory orc bowmen, with primer applied.
And, the full table pic:
These two pics might be the last ones from this workbench - we are preparing to move and the issue of space for this table is in doubt. We have a smaller table that I can use but it just would not be the same...

Old Glory orcs, part 2
I have spent a little brush-time with some of my older minis, and here are the pics to prove it:

They are still a work-in-progress but not much needs to be done, bases mostly and some details.

I have tried to keep the color scheme simple, with only the few repeat poses having much variation.

I am pleasantly surprised with the skin color - Reaper Pro Paints Ruddy Flesh with a wash of GW Ogryn Flesh, and the non-green orc look suits me just fine!
I have 2 more sword-armed orcs and 6 with axes, with the final set - 6 bows - on order, and these will be done...

Old Glory orcs, part 1
Regular readers of this blog might remember my Piles Of Minis post way back last year, where I sorted through a bunch of old minis that had recently resurfaced. While working on my Tsolyanu minis, my orcs have also found some time under the paintbrush.
Here are some work-in-progress pics:

Pictured are two packs of orcs from Old Glory Miniatures Ghost line - Orcs with Scimitars and Orcs with Axes.

These minis are not top-of-the-line sculpts, but I like them a lot and they paint up easily. The sculpts are animated and I have only one repeat in the collection. My favorite is the orc in the back row, trying to be sneaky.
Here's a close-up:

The base skin color is Reaper Pro Paints Ruddy Flesh, with a wash or two of GW Ogryn Flesh. I did not want yet another set of green orcs. Greenskins have their place but not in this bunch. Sometime I will add some bow-armed orcs to the mix...
