Back on track, with a surprise...

Far too slowly, but it is finally done - the hobby table is set up for business:

And, it is immediately besieged with projects and a few surprises as well if you look closely!

Here is the first one:

1/2400 Figurehead English 16th century squadron

1/2400 Figurehead Spanish 16th century squadron

I thought that these packs were sold off long ago, but they look intact and almost completely untouched. Looks like two to three ships per pack - plenty to start off. I really do not know much about the period - any rules suggestions? Since these minis received the official 'thumbs up' from the missus, they are keepers...

The missus and I are still debating the fate of all of those 1/6000 ships, scattered on the work table in the first pic; I am still sorting them out! Looks like British, German, Turkish (!), US, and Brazilian (?) ships, in a mix of WW1 and WW2 eras.

Table re-set

The bits and pieces that I have been waiting for have finally all come together, and the hobby table is finally in order:

Paint storage is handled by a pair of cheap spice racks, and the keyboard tray has been converted into tool storage (and more paints!). It is still a bit awkward but in time the arrangement will sort itself out.

Now, to find where those Hlutrgu are hiding so they can be equipped with weapons...

Agenda

The hobby table is still not in operation, so I have been trying to organize my thoughts around setting up an agenda of what I want to get accomplished gaming-wise.

First off is Tékumel. The Hlutrgu will be on the table first - they still need the hands drilled out for javelins, then painting. This is my first opposing force for the Tsolyanu troops that I already have, so for gaming purposes they are very much a necessity. After that, finishing the Ever Present Glory troops, working on Sérqu, then acquiring more minis, as I am certain that there will be more Tékumel Club releases soon.

Second, but no less important, terrain. Other than some old felt mats, I have no terrain! It would be a bit odd to have battles on a completely flat and featureless area. I am going to try and keep it simple at first, and the most useful of all terrain is (IMHO) trees. I remember reading in The Man of Gold about some black-leafed trees, so I will get out my copy and try to find more references. Some building ruins and monuments would be good as well and should be easy to make. One of the challenges with terrain in our new place will be storage - it is at a premium here and anything I conjure up will need to be stored carefully and in as small an area as possible.

Third - the other fantasy minis I have, orcs, reptus, etc. The orcs are nearly done, and could in a pinch be used as an opposing force to my Tékumel stuff.

Getting back on track

We have successfully changed residences. Even though we moved only a short distance (still in Seattle), the process has jumbled up everything! My hobby area is not set up yet, as you can tell from this pic:

So, I am plowing my way through the trilogy again, making notes on scenery and buildings and such. I am also going to look into using either balsa or basswood for the majority of the hulls for my naval project, simply because it will be easier to shape than the plastic sheet I tried before.

Getting set for 2011...

Well, this is not the best way to start off the new year:

We just moved residences, and my new, smaller work table is buried beneath various and assorted boxes! Actually, that is from a few days ago, and the table is now more like this:

Not quite as buried, with some semblance of order on the bookshelf.

It will be a while before the table is fully functional, as other, more pressing needs of the household are seen to first. So, I will have some time to come up with some sort of a plan for my hobby output.

First off is to get cracking with Tékumel. I actually finished a small handful of these minis last year, but many more are needed. I also have a great need for terrain, as I have none! Some ideas for small pieces have already been thought up, but no actual work done.

Second, finish off the miscellaneous fantasy minis I have, i.e. the Orcs and Reptus. My Orcs are fairly close to completion, but the Reptus need a completely new beginning.

Third, I need to sell off older minis, games, and models that are not needed in order to have space and funds for all of the new stuff.

It is just a short list, but for a slacker like me it is tremendous!

Happy New Year everybody, and let's hope for a great 2011!
